GARLIC VARIETIES & DESCRIPTION

IVAN - A Canadian variety, and our favorite porcelain hardneck type. Ivan is comparable to Music in many ways. A heavy producer, very easy to grow, sturdy, disease-resistant, and a hardy garlic that likes cold weather. Ivan has very large bulbs (slightly larger than Music) with 4 to 6 very easy-to-peel cloves. When eaten raw, it is a little spicier than Music. When cooked/roasted Ivan offers a lasting garlic flavor with a hint of sweetness. A classic that excels in any recipe. Keeps exceptionally well after harvest.

MUSIC may be the most popular hardneck garlic grown. Easy to grow, sturdy, disease-resistant, and a hardy garlic that likes cold weather. In good growing conditions, Music can produce big bulbs with 4 to 6 easy-to-peel cloves. Stores well after harvest and will last up to 3-6 months in a cool, dry and well-ventilated space. Raw Music garlic is aromatic and offers a medium-hot, ‘true garlic’ flavor.

DUGANSKI - A Purple Stripe hardneck variety, producing beautiful large bulbs, with 8 to 10 medium size cloves per bulb. Fiery with an initial burst of garlic heat that mellows out as it lingers. Long storage quality in right condition.

PERSIAN STAR - A purple stripe hardneck variety originally from Uzbekistan that boasts full flavored garlic. It has a rich, nutty, sweet flavor when roasted that is similar to Chesnok Red, but a tad bit milder. Persian Star produces large bulbs with 8-10 cloves per bulb.

BAVARIAN PURPLE - A Rocambole variety. A strong garlic that produces large dark purple skinned cloves. Good flavor with an upfront "bite" of heat that quickly disappears. An early harvesting, winter hardy variety, suited well for cold climates. Makes a very good root system. Has a long storage life.

GERMAN WHITE - A large, porcelain type garlic that contains 4-6 large easy-to-peel cloves. Does well in most climates. Approximately 6-8 garlic bulbs per pound.  A Hardneck Garlic, similar to Music.

GEORGIA CRYSTAL - A Porcelain Hardneck garlic. It has a rich flavor with a mild heat. Large bulbs with 4-5 very large cloves. Grows well in most areas of the USA. A favorite for those who desire large cloves. stores very well.

GERMAN PORCELAIN (German Extra Hardy) - A Porcelain Hardneck garlic with 4-5 huge cloves per bulb. 2" average bulb diameter. White outer skin, rusty reddish-tan clove skins. Strong raw flavor and high sugar content, making it one of the very best for roasting. Hardy plants. Excellent storage.

MONTANA GIANT - A large porcelain type. 4-6 Large Cloves per bulb. High heat intensity that mellows quickly. Large plants with typical large bulbs. Performs well. Long shelf life. 

Romanian Red - A highly vigorous porcelain type of garlic. Large size bulbs with 4-6 jumbo size cloves.  Adds a long lasting hot and spicy bite to any dish. Although pungent, it also has an excellent flavor with a strong nutty aftertaste. High allicin content. Brought to North America from Romania. Grows well in northern & southern states. Stores very well.
